Experience Prior To The Program

Prior to the Analyst Prep Program, I was working towards an accounting degree and a future in public accounting. I joined the Romero Mentoring program to develop a strong skillset in modeling and financial analysis that I could utilize in public accounting. My aspirations for the program were to exit with a strong base of knowledge to be prepared for junior year internships.

Training Experience

Being able to review material with Luis Romero and Michael Ganian was the most valuable part of the program. Their experiences and knowledge of finance were extremely useful and interesting. They were always willing to answer any questions that I had about the material and expand on topics that I was interested in. Gleaning insight from those two brought me knowledge that I could not have found through my college education. This knowledge has put me ahead of my peers and has prepared me well for the investment banking recruiting process.

Internship Experience

The internship experience was an exciting opportunity to apply principles learned through the mentoring program into practice. I enjoyed the opportunity to delve deeper into publicly traded companies and to have a comprehensive understanding of their businesses. The mentoring program gave me all skills necessary to succeed in the internship. For instance, financial modeling is an important part in the equity research process. The mentoring program taught me how to build models that were far more detailed and complex than if I were to teach myself.

Mentorship

The mentoring piece is the most integral part of what makes Romero Mentoring special. The counseling that I received from Luis and Michael was second to none. They are both well versed in the industry and understand how to navigate the finance world. Prior to the program, I was focused on pursuing a career in public accounting. However, with Luis’ guidance, I found that investment banking or equity research would be better for accomplishing my career goals.

Career Development

This program enabled me to understand what parts of finance I enjoy. I am grateful that this experience was able to give me this understanding before entering into my junior year which is a pivotal year for finance recruitment.

Final Remarks

Especially being from a non-target school, this program was important for me. It gave me a skill set that has given me relevancy in the recruiting process and has allowed me to compete with graduates from target schools. If you are looking to build a strong base of financial knowledge there is no better place. The material is easy to comprehend and the mentoring is something that you cannot get anywhere else.
