Finance Major Analyst Prep Student Breaks Into Finance
Background
Marius enrolled in our 2022 program while pursuing his Master’s in Economics at Hunter College in New York. At the time, he was balancing two jobs and graduate-level coursework while trying to break into the highly competitive investment banking and financial services industry.
Despite his academic training, Marius lacked practical investment banking skills and financial modeling experience to guide him through the rigorous recruiting process. He joined the Romero Mentoring Analyst Prep program to gain real-world training, technical skills, and the confidence needed to launch his career.
With the help of our program, Marius built a strong technical foundation, gained hands-on experience, and received personalized career guidance. This preparation gave him the edge to successfully secure a role at Goldman Sachs as a Controller Analyst.
The Results
- Marius acquired technical training in financial modeling, valuation, and capital markets that prepared him for interviews and professional success
- He completed assignments in financial analysis, pitch presentations, and company valuations that gave him applied experience in investment banking
- After completing the program, he received a full-time offers as an Analyst at CVS health and Controller Analyst at Goldman Sachs
- The combination of training, internship experience, and 1-on-1 mentorship positioned him as a competitive candidate in a demanding job market
The Challenge
Breaking into the financial services industry is extremely competitive, with most firms seeking candidates who already have prior investment banking or related finance experience.
Marius faced several challenges at the start of his journey:
- He lacked advanced financial modeling and valuation skills
- He had limited exposure to investment banking workflows and real-world deal analysis
- Balancing two jobs and a demanding graduate program left little time for structured career preparation
These obstacles made it difficult to compete with peers who already had internships with full time return offers or industry connections. Marius recognized that he needed additional training, mentorship, and practical experience to succeed.
The Transformation
In just a few months, Marius completed our 196-hour structured investment banking training, mentoring, internship, and career development program.
- He gained mastery in financial modeling, valuation techniques, and investment analysis, with assignments reviewed in live classes to ensure deep understanding
- He developed advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, as well as a strong base in accounting, capital markets, and investment strategies
- Through our internship program, Marius performed hands-on financial analysis, built models, and prepared recommendations similar to the work of full-time analysts
- The personalized mentoring and structured learning gave him confidence and the technical expertise to excel in competitive interviews
By the end of the program, Marius had transformed from a graduate student with limited exposure to finance into a highly skilled professional ready to launch his career at one of the world’s top financial institutions.
